It was so fun to do this interview with Voyager Houston Magazine!

Heidi Houston interview with Voyager Houston Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Hansen.

Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the medical field years ago. But when I became a stay at home mom my creative side started coming through. Maybe hanging with babies day after day brought out the creative side of me. I’ve always had a thing caftans and vacations. After my boys started school, I started sketching at my dining room table, then I started making patterns at my dining room table. I would hunt around town for fun and colorful fabrics. Little by little, I was able to have samples made and find someone to sew my ideas and bring them to life. This year I am off to India for beautiful fabrics ad colorful ideas. I cannot wait! I have never been but it feels like a fabulous way to start the new decade!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think any new business has a really smooth road. I always say “If I knew how much I did not know when I started, I never would have started.” Sometimes ignorance is bliss. There is so much that goes into starting a business, there is no way to truly be ready. Obstacles and challenges come up constantly. The key is just keeping your head up and continue to move forward.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Heidi Houston specializes in effortless style. Clean modern lines with a sense of ease. Looking easily put together while feeling like you are wearing pajamas or nothing at all 😉 From coffee to cocktails, you’ll be ready. Loose, flowy pieces perfect for vacations, hosting your next dinner party or lounging around the house.

What were you like growing up?
I’m super shy and a total introvert. This whole business is way out of my comfort zone, but that’s the only way to grow, right?! I’ve always loved fashion and tend to be more classic styles and less into trendy styles. It takes me a few years to jump into the trends – need to make sure they stick around a while… haha! I also love accessorizing with big and bold jewelry, always have, always will!
